Fall River Celebrates America 2009

"Family Fun on the Waterfront"

Message from the CEO

CEO Robert A. MellionOn behalf of the Fall River Area Chamber and Commerce and Industry and the City of Fall River, I welcome you to the Fall River Celebrates America festival! Twenty three years ago the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fall River partnered to create an annual summer event. The goal has always been to provide the South Coast community with a signature festival designed to draw people together. That is why Fall River Celebrates America endures even though the region is in the midst of a national recession. By working collectively we can redefine our commercial infrastructure and build a new diversified economy that will drive economic development and raise the quality of life in the South Coast.

This year's festival offers families with fun on the Fall River waterfront at a very low cost. The Chamber decided early on that due to the affects of the recession, FRCA had to provide families with extremely affordable summer fun without the added expense of travel. That is why the steering committee selected "Family Fun on the Waterfront" as the event's theme in 2009.

FRCA - 2009 will feature three days of music, entertainment, dancing, magic, children's activities, carnival rides, food, antique cars, fireworks and a cannon solute from the USS Massachusetts. There will also be an expanded Kids World, with clowns, pirates, a sand play pit and many new additions to keep children entertained and happy. TEAMWORKS of Somerset will provide bubble bounce tents and an obstacle course for children. Home Depot is going to offer various workshop projects for kids throughout the weekend.

An added attraction in 2009 is a local dance studio showcase. The showcase will feature a variety of performances by area students from dance companies throughout the South Coast. The dance showcase will compliment the highly requested seventh annual Fall River Catches a Star talent completion. Other new attractions include a sailboat regatta Sponsored by the Battleship MA on Saturday morning and an antique car display on Sunday.

Coordinating a festival the size of FRCA is not an easy accomplishment. It requires a great amount of time and effort from many resources. For that reason, the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry would like to thank the dozens of corporate sponsors and individual donors for their loyal and continuous support for FRCA. Thank you also to the hundreds of individual and organizational volunteers as well as the City of Fall River, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the U.S.S. Massachusetts and the Friends of Heritage State Park for their on-going partnership. Finally, the Chamber must recognize the people of Fall River and Southeastern New England. FRCA is your festival!

You have spoken and the Chamber has listened. We understand that the people of this great community deserve no less than our best efforts to produce FRCA a time when the festival is needed more than ever in the past. That is why this year's event will be great! In short, FRCA is a festival that provides much enjoyment to families, brings people together, benefits local businesses and produces needed revenues within the City of Fall River. So please join us as a volunteer and/or a patron. You'll be glad you did! For more information visit www.fallrivercelebrates.com or contact the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce at 508-676-8226.

Best regards,
Robert A. Mellion, Esq.
